Kids on Block Project: Job openings

CALLING ALL ACTORS!

Actors of all abilities are needed as puppeteers for the WhyArts, Inc revival of The Kids On The Block. The Kids On The Block is an educational puppet program for grades K-4 that enlightens children on the issues of disability awareness, medical-educational differences and social concerns. Each topic is thoroughly researched and provides children with the opportunity to interact with the “Kids” and address their questions regarding the specific topic. The programs are performed in a lively and entertaining manner and the educational curricula help to create positive attitudinal and behavioral change for present and future generations.

You will work collaboratively with staff members and an ensemble of actors who accurately represent each puppet. You will learn basic puppeteering skills in a WhyArts, Inc sponsored workshop, rehearse and perform meaningful 20-minute plays centering around a specific disability, such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, blindness, and deafness. Experience in children’s theater performance, and knowledge of issues surrounding disability awareness are desired but not required. All participants will arrange their own transportation.

Rehearsals will begin May 25, 2022 and continue throughout the summer. Workshop performances will begin September 2022. Assembly performances will begin January 2023, and will be presented at area elementary schools during normal school hours. Compensation will be $50.00 per hour for rehearsals, workshops and performances.
