Theatre’s The Word in 2016
WhyArts? faculty will be busy treading the boards in 2016, as the organization will launch a major programming emphasis on theatre that’s centered on three sources – “A Palette of Possibility,” “Rumble in the Jungle” and “The Giving Tree.”
Conceived and directed by Gretta Berghammer and developed in partnership with The Rose Theater, “A Palette of Possibility” is an interactive adventure that takes children on a magical and inventive exploration of color in all its various forms. Following its run this fall at The Rose Theatre, WhyArts? faculty will travel the play to local schools and organizations at no charge in 2016. The performance runs 35 minutes and is designed for younger audiences.- “Rumble in the Jungle,” a children’s book by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz, is the inspiration for a series of theatre workshops that WhyArts? will offer to special education classes in elementary schools across Omaha.
- The series, led by WhyArts? faculty, will focus on theatre, puppetry, music and movement. Schools that participate in the workshop series will be featured in a “jungle rumble” video that will be created and shared with the community.
- In partnership with the Circle Theatre, WhyArts? will offer additional workshops for middle school special education classes based on “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein. First published in 1964 by Harper & Row, the book has become one of the author’s best known titles and has been translated into numerous languages. There is no cost to book these workshops.
