Artemis Gerlt

Starting to define and establish herself within Omaha’s creative community, Artemis is a

Studio Art major at Omaha Metro. Just in this past year, Artemis was featured in Metro’s Student Exhibition and received the purchase award for her piece. Her passion for creativity began early—As a child, Artemis joined a competitive dance team for a few years, whilst still keeping up with her personal art. Dance was her first love, teaching her discipline and expression, though visual art became just as essential, if not more, to her creative journey. After a period of creative stillness, Artemis rediscovered her flow with the help of some creative exercises and a trip dedicated to art. Since then, Artemis has been creating more fearlessly and consistently than before. She is excited to enter the art world professionally and leave her creative mark.

Teaching Philosophy

As an art educator, Artemis believes in motivating each student’s unique visual voice while learning different forms of art. Art is not about replication, but interpretation—using color, shape, texture, and form to express personal experience and perspective. In her classroom, exploration is valued over perfection, and mistakes are embraced as opportunities for growth. Through encouragement and creative experimentation, Artemis aims to embrace confidence and a lifelong creative spirit in every student. She aims to create engaging, lively classes that introduce students to a wide range of art forms and techniques. By exploring concepts such as chiaroscuro, for example, Artemis aims to make learning both fun and meaningful. Through exciting, hands-on projects, students discover the diversity of the art world and gain a deeper understanding of what art truly means to themselves.

Beginning each class with brief standing or chair yoga, focusing on the neck and wrists to prepare students for creating art. After this warm-up, Artemis will clearly outline the day’s objectives and demonstrate the process before they begin working. Class time is structured to allow focused studio practice, and then close with dedicated time for sharing so students can discuss their work, celebrate progress, and learn from one another. Leaving the last 5 minutes to clean up the space and ask them what projects they would be interested in doing.

Signature Style

Artemis' signature style is an abstract reflection of her experience of the world around

her. Through vibrant color palettes and unconventional forms, she translates emotion and perspective into her own visual language.
