Charisa Ramsey
Teaching Artist

Charisa (she/her) began her artistic journey at the young age of five practicing elaborate death scenes in front of her bedroom mirror. Her flair for the dramatic led her to the stage and she spent much of her adolescence and young adulthood performing in musicals and plays. From there she ventured into directing, playwriting, and discovered a love of teaching.
Charisa attended the University of Nebraska Kearney for her undergraduate degree and studied Theatre Performance. In 2022 she earned an M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction - Theatre Pedagogy from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She has held Teaching Artist Fellowships with The Rose Theatre and Opera Omaha in addition to a two season Directing Fellowship at Omaha Community Playhouse. She has had two of her original one-acts produced at the First Flight Festival in Lincoln, NE. Charisa is also a rostered artist with the Nebraska Arts Council’s Artist-in-Residence program.
Charisa has a special interest in Theatre for Social Change and creating inclusive theatre spaces. She is driven by her belief that theatre is for everyone and should be accessible to all. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed, Inc. (PTO), an international organization that supports people whose work challenges oppressive systems by promoting critical thinking and social justice through liberatory theatre and popular education, and is a Community Council member with Anastasis Theatre, whose mission is to lift unheard voices in our community.
Whether she is leading creative movement with kindergarteners, teaching improv to incarcerated teens, or devising an inclusive performance piece with adults, she strives to foster inclusive, accessible spaces that are safe for all to feel inspired to explore their talents and create together. While theatre is Charisa’s main area of speciality, she is an interdisciplinary artist who enjoys incorporating writing, music, movement, and visual art into her artistry. www.linkedin.com/in/charisaramsey
