Christie Jones
Teaching Artist

Christie Jones is an educator and artist. She is a writer, photographer, and jewelry maker. She
uses writing, art, and performance to build community and a sense of belonging. She is from
Los Angeles where she studied English at UCLA. Her love for African American literature led
her to begin her career as a middle school Language Arts teacher in Florida. During her time in
Florida, she earned her Master's degree in Multicultural Education from Florida Atlantic
University. She helped African American, Haitian, Jamaican, and other Black students from the
diaspora to understand their connection to Africa and each other. She encouraged discussion
about identity with all students and challenged them to see themselves from their own
perspective. She also has a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of North Texas
where she served as a Diversity Scholar, bringing a multicultural perspective to curriculum and
instruction. Her passion for storytelling led her to teaching and the desire to empower students
and families with literacy. She has taught middle school, high school, and college students in
schools throughout the United States. She is eager to create inclusive art spaces for all to
thrive! She is the founder of Black Writing Project, a virtual gallery that celebrates Black girls
and women.
