Theresa Sindelar

Dr. Diane Rivers, “Doc,” or “Dr. Diane” is a dedicated professional educator whose career
spans over four decades. She is a two-time alumna of University of Nebraska at Omaha
– 1980 and 2011. She has served our community as a daycare director, public and

private school teacher, adjunct professor, Math and Science Resource teacher, middle-
school science teacher, and Assistant Principal.

As an author, Dr. Rivers has written and published fiction and non-fiction books,
curriculum guides, and grants. Her most recent book is a science teaching guide.
Dr. Diane is an avid gardener, crafter, and loves visiting museums and the Atlantic
Ocean.
When asked, “What does it mean to return to UNO as a member of the Barbara Weitz
Community Engagement Center as a nonprofit?” Dr. Rivers replied, “I have spent the
better part of my educational experiences on this campus. I am sure there is a place
downstairs in the Criss Library that holds my tears as I tackled running stats for my
Advanced Stats course.” As the first in her family to attend college and obtain a
doctorate degree, Doc is no stranger to hard work.
Her skills and love for learning keeps her active and productive in her community. Her
passions are learning, cooking, gardening and writing.
Dr. Rivers firmly believes that everyone can learn science, every day. “STEM levels the
playing field.” “It also improves our quality of life.”
