Tami Brookhouser

Tami Brookhouser is a certified Nebraska teacher who has been teaching for 31 years. She has degrees in Elementary Education and Music Education from Nebraska Wesleyan, and a Masters in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has written STEAM curriculum, directed musical programs, taught art classes, coached podcasting, and created school wide enrichment programs. Tami is passionate about the importance of creativity in our lives. She recently retired from the classroom, and now works for ESU#3 and Why Arts to bring creative workshops to students throughout the state.

For the past five years, Tami has been teaching the art of puppetry, and it has been the most engaging subject she has ever seen in 31 years of teaching. People of all ages love to make puppets! There is something special about seeing a pile of materials turn into a unique character that comes to life. Some of the styles of puppets Tami teaches include: shadow puppets, sock puppets, and rod puppets. Tami has also taught hundreds of students how to sew their own professional puppets and make movies with them.

In a world where AI is increasing its reach, creativity remains the one area where humans still prevail. Tami is passionate about teaching students how to embrace the creativity that is so often lost during school. She uses puppetry, design, music, and drama to help students feel free to express their ideas and feelings.
