Tami Brookhouser
Teaching Artist

Tami Brookhouser is a certified Nebraska teacher who has been teaching for 30 years. She has degrees in Elementary Education and Music Education from Nebraska Wesleyan, and a Masters in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has written STEAM curriculum, directed musical programs, taught art classes, coached podcasting, and created school wide enrichment programs. Tami is passionate about the importance of creativity in our lives. She recently retired from the classroom, and now works for ESU#3 to bring creative workshops to students throughout the state. She also serves on the NE Gifted board.
For the past four years, Tami has been teaching puppetry to her students, and it has been the most engaging subject she has ever seen in 30 years of teaching. Students have learned shadow puppetry, where they wrote and performed their own fables. Students used sock puppets to show emotions and create original music videos expressing particular feelings. Tami also taught hundreds of students how to sew their own professional puppets and make movies with them. She is excited to bring this joyful medium to Why Arts workshops.
In a world where AI is increasing its reach, Creativity remains the one area where humans still prevail. Tami is passionate about teaching students how to embrace the creativity that is so often lost during school. She uses puppetry, design, music, and drama to help students feel free to express their ideas and feelings.
